| Implants
- What are they? Dental implants are titanium screws which are fixed directly into the jaw bone. These are usually placed under local anaesthetic. The implants are left to integrate with the bone for about three/four months. Following the placement of implants no denture can be worn for two weeks. The
implants are then uncovered and healing caps are fitted. These protrude
through the gum and allow access to the implants in the bone. The gum
is left to heal for about two months when the second stages of the implants
are fitted. The second stages are screwed into the implants and act as the link between the implants and the crowns. Impressions are taken and the crown(s) is fabricated in the laboratory. The crown is held in place by a small gold screw which is screwed into the second stage of the implant.
